Subhash Chandra Bose : Indroduction
Subhash Chandra Bose is considered one of the great revolutionaries of the freedom movement. Subhash Chandra Bose is considered the most famous freedom fighter due to his excellent leadership. His slogans like “You give me blood, I’ll give you freedom”, “Jai Hind” and “Delhi Chalo” are very inspiring. He founded the Azad Hind Fauj and played a very important role in India’s struggle for independence. His hard work and his ideas helped India achieve independence. He founded the Indian National Army, which was especially famous as the Azad Hind Fauj. Subhash Chandra Bose greatly admired Swami Vivekananda. Subhash Chandra Bose’s full name was Subhash Chandra Janakinath Bose.
Birth and Education
He was born on January 23, 1897, in the city of Cuttack in Odisha, in a Hindu Kayastha family. His father’s name was Janakinath Bose and his mother’s name was Prabhavati. His father was a successful lawyer in Cuttack and held the title of “Rai Bahadur”. Like his siblings, he received his schooling at the Protestant European School in Cuttack (now Stewart High School). He graduated from Presidency College. At the age of 16, after reading the works of Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna, he was influenced by their teachings. After that, his parents sent him to Cambridge University in England to prepare for the Indian Civil Service. He passed the civil service exam in 1920, but after hearing about nationalist unrest in India in April 1921, he resigned from his candidacy and returned to India. His father returned the title of “Rai Bahadur” in opposition to British repression. This increased Subhash’s resentment towards the British. Now Subhash, inspired by Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna’s teachings, was determined to free India from British rule.
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was naturally enthusiastic about writing. In addition to his unfinished autobiography “An Indian Pilgrim”, he also wrote a complete book in two parts, “The Indian Struggle”, which was first published in London. Subhash Chandra Bose made significant contributions to the Indian National Congress and the freedom struggle.
After passing the civil service exam, Subhash resigned from the civil service. His father encouraged him, saying, “Once you have taken the vow of serving the nation, never deviate from this path.” After becoming the National Secretary of the Congress in December 1927, he was elected the National President of the Congress in 1938. He had said – “It is my desire that we fight for independence under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. Our fight is not only against British imperialism but against global imperialism as well.” Gradually, Subhash became disillusioned with the Congress.
On March 16, 1939, Subhash resigned from his post. Subhash started efforts to organize the youth in a new direction for the independence movement. It began with the ‘Indian Independence Conference’ in Singapore on July 4, 1943. Some historians believe that when Netaji tried to seek help from Japan and Germany, the British government ordered its spies to eliminate him in 1941.
On July 5, 1943, the ‘Azad Hind Fauj’ was formally established. On October 21, 1943, a conference of Indians living in various countries of Asia was held, and an interim independent Indian government was established, reaffirming the resolve to achieve independence. Subhash Chandra Bose was a leading figure in the Indian freedom struggle, and his fearless patriotism made him the hero of the nation. During World War II, he fought against the British with the help of Japan and established the Azad Hind Fauj. “You give me blood, I’ll give you freedom” was Subhash Chandra Bose’s famous slogan.
He delivered many inspiring speeches during his freedom movement and inspired people to struggle for India’s independence. Later, the honorable Netaji, with the help of Germany, established a special military office in Berlin in 1942, which was also used in 1990, where he took charge of the Indian independence movement and began to unite people for India’s freedom. Bose was leading his army well, imbued with a spirit of unity and social service. There was no trace of discrimination or religious bias in his service. Seeing this, he was called an incompetent soldier in Japan, and that’s why his army could not stay together for long. Subhash Chandra Bose’s speech in Rangoon’s Jigni Hall has been recorded in history, where he said, “Freedom demands sacrifice. Much sacrifice has been made for our freedom, but sacrificing lives is still pending.” These were the words of freedom, and today, India needs such young people who can offer their heads to the goddess of freedom. He also gave the slogan of ‘Inquilab Zindabad’. Subhash Chandra Bose became the identity of Indianness and continues to inspire Indian youth even today.
